Net Neutrality is a Load of Bollocks
April 13, 2008
The new Virgin Media CEO, Neil Berkett, just made his company lose a few customers by attending an interview. You can read the full story at DigitalSpy.
In an interview with the Royal Television Society’s Television magazine, Berkett said that “this net neutrality thing is a load of b****cks”, and revealed that Virgin is already in talks with unnamed content providers about paying to have their content delivered faster than others.
This could develop into a huge net protest with boycotts and the like. TorrentFreak has an article about it, so it’s bound to reach digg.com in a couple of hours.
Comcast really hit the wall when blocking BitTorrent-traffic almost a year ago.

i’m taking this story with a pinch of salt.
If you remember a few weeks back, Virgin were going to disconnect file shareres, that turned out to be rubbish. I think people are taking the hate they have for comcast (the big US cable company) and aiming it at Virgin (the big UK cable company).
I think maybe this might be more of the same rumour war.

Lol.. why would there be a boycott of Virgin Media if they were to charge the BBC for access to Virgin subscribers?

Erm, the BBC’s Iplayer is facing a switch off by every ISP in the UK. And this has been widely reported for the last 6 months.

But I was wrong about the TorrentFreak article reaching Digg.com though.

I remember a hell of a lot of Bittorrent trackers banning a certain bittorrent client for hogging bandwidth…….. Net Neutrality eh?
